 A&L Decorating Custom Window Treatments

Welcome to the wonderful world of Custom Made Window treatments!  Why choose custom made versus store bought window treatments? The answers are many and varied – as every window requires specific solutions. From light control and privacy to the decorative styling to fit your decor, custom made window fashions can solve your requirements in so many ways!

There is an abundance of window treatments options, fabric and trim choices plus an extensive variety of designs and styles to fit every window. We at A & L Decorating help you find the right solution for your specific window requirements. We offer free in home design consultations. Whether it’s one window or an entire house, we take the time to explore with you all the possibilities available to meet your personal design solutions.

We’ve expanded our services and products to include hard window coverings (blinds, shades, shutters, etc.), re-upholstery, carpeting, and custom made bedding and accessory products. Our comprehensive line of drapery fabrics, sheers and trimmings feature well known companies such as Robert Allen, Carole Fabrics, Fabricut, Kravet, Mitchell Fabrics and Michaels Textiles. Kirsch Hardware, Paris Texas, and House Parts are a few of our window hardware lines offering versatility of styles, sizes and finishes.

Maybe you’re not sure where to start on your quest for the right window treatment. Let us help you through the process. Consider the following:

GETTING STARTED

  1. With all of the factors that go into creating the right window treatment for your interior, the design itself must be the first decision.  You already have a personal style so, how do you translate it or define it for your home? Keep in mind that interior design is subject to your liking and taste. While we can’t list all design styles here, below are some of the more timeless possibilities.

    (a) Do you tend to like clean straight lines, clutter free spaces, simple one or two color combinations? If so, then most likely, contemporary or modern design suites your lifestyle best.

    (b) If your taste leans toward that of the Louis XVI Bergere with elegant brocades and rich silk damask drapery fabrics and trimmings, then you definitely like a more formal lifestyle. This would be considered traditional style with French, English or American cultural influences.

    (c) Transitional life style is a combination of modern and traditional design elements. It’s an eclectic mix of furnishings that would include grandmother’s pie crust table that works well as an accent piece with your more straight lined sofa and chair. This style of decorating can be very exciting and a great challenge to pull off well. The key is to keep the room‘s furnishings more of one style. This allows the eye to appreciate the special piece while still keeping harmony in your interior.

  2. In addition to your style, your interior’s architectural features can determine part of your direction. For example;

    (a) Ceiling and trim moldings in classic 18th century motifs or wainscoting, pilasters and fluted columns all suggest a traditional approach to your window’s design. Palladian and arched windows are very popular right now and definitely command special treatment to enhance their beauty. We can suggest many style options for a traditional window treatment – from a classic drapery, to adding a valance, or an elegant swag and cascaded treatment to several classic styles all having many design choices for you to choose.

    (b) Your room may have more than one window and different sizes and styles. We can coordinate a design to compliment and tie all treatments together.

    (c) Modern interiors generally have little if any architectural details, offering the opportunity for the windows to play a more substantial role in the decorating plan.  Creating more impact is as simple as raising the height of a drapery to almost ceiling height, using a decorative rod and finials and your room has instant architectural impact. Tailored valances also work well. Placed at ceiling height and adding drapery panels can also visually enlarge the window for a greater impact.  Hard window fashions such as vertical blinds or Luminettes by Hunter Douglas add a modern touch to any room. You can also add tailored valances over the hard widow treatment s for a more finished look.

These two points are pertinent to beginning your search for selecting your window coverings. Once complete, it allows us to work on the fabric choices. This part can be very overwhelming to most clients, since there is so much to consider but it can also be the most fun and creative step.

Fabric colors, textures, prints, tone on tone designs, damasks, silks, trimmings, and also the type of lining and the need for interlining are all part of what makes for the best choice for your window treatment.

At our in-home consultation, we will work with you for the appropriate style and choice of fabrics, trim or other detail options best suited for your home, architecture and style. This may also incorporate some of the hard window products to enhance the function of your window treatment. Choices can include blinds, shades, shutters, etc. We offer an extensive selection of Hunter Douglas window coverings from which we’ll select the best option for your needs.

At this point, we may also consider other items to enhance your window treatment. Accent pillows, an upholstered bench or ottoman, or possibly a custom made bedding ensemble are just a few possibilities depending on the room you are decorating.

BUDGET
Our prime consideration is to work within your budget requirements.  There are so many variables when it comes to pricing custom made treatments and products. For instance, we may select a fabric from one company that has a higher price per yard than you would want to consider. With so many fabric lines, we can duplicate a similar fabric from another vender at a more reasonable price without compromising on your overall treatment.  The same can be said for hard window coverings as there is a variety of products with variable pricing options.

Many clients consider ordering their window treatments in phases. A new home buyer has many windows to be covered. We suggest getting your privacy and light control requirements addressed with the proper window covering. When your budget allows, we’ll gladly come back to add the finishing touches to your window treatments.

Knowing what you want to spend for your window treatments helps us to guide you in your selections and give you a great look within your budget.

Our payment policy requires a fifty percent deposit of your total order with the balance due upon installation. We accept cash and personal checks as well as credit cards.
